Bars
Bar D’Up, Rue des Moulins
Sky TV. If you’re a builder living and working in Chamonix, this is the place for you! If you actually want to get to the bar to buy a drink and don’t want to have to barge past said builders, you’re best off elsewhere. Good for sport when nowhere else is open.
Café la Terrasse, Place Balmat
Art-deco mansion in as central a location as you can get. Live bands often with a more relaxed bar upstairs Quite why it’s not packed every night, we’ll never know.
Chambre Neuf, Avenue Michel Croz
Opposite the station this is Scandinavian owned and best apres-ski in town as it often has live bands in the early evening. Mad busy in the winter from 4.30 to 7pm, then more relaxed until later when the 2 for 1 cocktails appear.
Le Choucas, Rue du Docteur Paccard
Lively, typical ski-pub and French. Big screens with boarding & skiing videos if you don’t really feel like talking to your mates. Really kicks off after 1pm when a lot of the other bars have closed. A late night essential.
Elevation 1904, Avenue Michel Croz
Opposite the station and recently taken over by French owners, Elevation has nonetheless always had a local feel. Renowned for good value breakfasts and lunches (egg and sausage baguettes,,…), it’s also very popular at night and particularly Wednesdays for Ladies night.
MBC, Route du Bouchet
Chamonix’s very own micro-brewery on the road to Argentière. The beer festival on the eve of Bastille Day is something else, but this place has a good atmosphere at all times and lively après-ski when the bands are on. Fabulous range of beers, changing from week to week. Half price chicken wings Monday nights is a must do.
No Escape, Route de la Tour
Tucked away behind McDonalds. Check your credit card limit before you go in. Exclusive high class atmosphere, which is why there’s never anybody in there. Bouncers with attitude.
The Pub, Rue du Docteur Paccard
Good relaxed atmosphere and the best place by far for sport (large HD cinema screen). A favourite with Mountain Base!
Soul Food, Rue des Moulins
Bijou (i.e. titchy) French owned bar/club with some of the best DJs around. A mix of funky house and hip-hop, definitely cooler than the rest.
