Argentiere

Argentière - Chamonix - Skiing in the shadow of Mont Blanc, all year round

Argentière is considered one of the foremost alpine resorts due to its enviable location at the base of Les Grands Montets - an immense, varied area offering an array of pistes and vast powder fields of off piste in the winter and a universe of extraordinary beauty in the summer.

The village is 7km above Chamonix town, nestled below the infamous Drus and Aiguille Verte and between the Mer de Glace and Glacier d'Argentière.

Skiing & Boarding In Argentière

From December to May, the high altitude and aspect make for exceptional, cold powder even in late April when most of the supposed winter sports crowd have packed away their skis and boards for the following year! Major pistes - blue, red and black, freeriding, high-mountain or off-piste routes, moguls, secret combes and couloirs accessible to all make up this unique setting coveted by all who have a passion for skiing and all who love the high mountains.

The area is certainly the most challenging in the Chamonix Valley but we should not let its reputation get ahead of us. There is a great variety in Argentière from the nursery slopes of Les Chosalets, the wide blues of Marmottons and Arolles, the stunning Bochard red through to the immense Point de Vue black from the very top of Grands Montets. Add to that the natural moguls of la Herse, the combes forming natural board parks and the huge powder bowls of the Glacier, Lognan and Combe de la Pendant.

Après-ski In Argentière

Argentière provides a far more laid back atmosphere than Chamonix itself, but still has the life to generate a character of its own. Several notable (if not infamous!) bars, including the Rusticana, Office and Stone, lead the way with the night time crowd, abley backed up by several quality restaurants and a nightclub.

Summer in Argentiere

When the snow melts, locals of Chamonix go hiking, mountain-climbing, horse-riding, white-water rafting, canyoning, paragliding, golfing, play tennis and cycle. These picturesque, glaciated mountains around Mont Blanc are full of maintained, well-marked trails with an overwhelming variety of flowers, plants, plunging waterfalls and natural springs. Look out for the legendary chamois, a mountain goat which looks like an antelope. The lifts of the Grand Montets offer easy access to viewpoints at either end of the amazing Argentiere glacier.
