Mountain Base recommends Deep Nature Spas in Chamonix at Hotel Le Morgane and Hotel Les Aiglons for complete relaxation.

Each offers luxurious facilities such as a swimming pool, a steam room and a sauna – the view of Mont Blanc from the hot tub at Hotel Les Aiglons is worth the entry fee alone! Both spas also offer a range of massages, beauty therapies and relaxation treatments to have you feeling fantastic

Handy hints from Mountain Base
  • Hotel Les Aiglons offers a number of packages, such as spa and lunch for 25€. This includes a 2 course meal and unlimited use of the spa pool, steam room and sauna – perfect for a mid-week treat or bad weather day.
  • The spas are both open until 20:00 every evening, stretching out in a hot sauna will do wonders for your muscles after a day on the slopes.

Thermes de St Gervais

Experience the restorative waters of one of France's great spa towns – Saint Gervais Les Bains.

Once upon a time people with certain maladies (and a certain amount of money) would take themselves off to a spa town to recuperate in the thermal waters. These days we still appreciate the health benefits of all those minerals, but we tend to do it more as an indulgence than as a remedy - although Les Thermes de Saint Gervais still offers treatments for skin complaints, allergies, rheumatism and other conditions.

The thermal baths are housed in a traditional 17th century building that has been extensively renovated in recent years to provide guests with all the latest facilities. A 3 hour session in the spa includes multi-sensory rooms, saunas, outdoor pools, hydrotherapy massages and a solarium.

Should you want something a bit more specialised, Les Thermes offers the services of their beauty therapists, a dietician, a sophrologist and a shiatsu practitioner –  contact us if you would like to book an appointment with any of the above.

Catch a train from any of the Chamonix valley stations to Saint Gervais Le Fayet and it’s just a short walk to get there. Alternatively, contact us to book a taxi.

Handy hints from Mountain Base
  • The famous Tramway du Mont Blanc is just a short walk from the spa and is a “must do” while you are in the area –  book your tickets through Mountain Base.
  • The thermal baths of Saint Gervais are set in 10 hectares of parkland, make sure you fit in time for a relaxing walk before or after your spa session.
  • Being in the mountains can make your skin dry, especially if you forget to use sunblock. Soaking in the thermal baths or booking an appointment with a therapist will leave you feeling soft and smooth again.

Les Bains de Lavey

Lie back and gaze at the snowy Alpine peaks whilst bathing in the hottest thermal waters in Switzerland.

The thermal pools at Lavey are open all year and heated to temperatures of 32-36°C. Enjoy the refreshing contrast of crisp mountain air on your face and warm soothing water on your body!

There are one indoor and two outdoor pools to choose from as well as sauna, steam room and lounge area.

Various treatments such as massages, reflexology, clay body wraps, facials and manicures can all be booked at an extra charge –  please consult the Les Bains de Lavey website for prices and details.

The baths are located over the Swiss border, about an hour's drive from Chamonix.  Please contact us for details of taxis and private minibus transfers.

Handy hints from Mountain Base
  • The Nordic Pavilion is a part of the spa that is to be sought out or avoided, depending on your personal preference. “Naturist saunas” and icy cold baths are not for everyone.
  • Swimming costumes can be bought at the spa reception desk, should you forget to bring your own. Or just refer to Handy Hint #1 and head to the Nordic Pavilion.

Pré Saint Didier

Pré Saint Didier, Italy, is the ultimate in spa days, as soon as you are handed your bathrobe and flip-flops you are immersed in a cocoon of relaxation.

Just a short drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel on the other side of Courmayeur, Pré Saint Didier has everything you need; outdoor pools with stunning mountain views, treatment rooms inside a classic Italian villa, sensory chambers, hot/cold plunge baths, healthy buffet with freshly squeezed fruit juices...

The architecture of the building has been preserved and integrated into the function of the spa. Long corridors house trenches of soothing warm and freezing cold water, which you alternately wade through to give your circulation a kick start; cellars have been turned into water treatment rooms with fierce showers that pummel your muscles, floating pools with coloured lights and scented saunas where you scrub your skin with coarse salt before you enter.

Included in the entry fee is the buffet; an array of fruit, vegetables, cereals, bread and yoghurt with herbal teas and fresh fruit juices. The Italians know how to eat well, even in a health spa!

There is plenty here to keep you occupied for a good few hours, the building is huge and it takes a while to find all the features of the spa. However, if you want to make your trip really special you can indulge in a massage or relaxation treatment with one of their therapists – enquire at the reception desk on entry.

Handy hints from Mountain Base
  • Mountain Base offers a weekly bus service to Courmayeur in partnership with Haute Transfer. Contact us to enquire about transport to and from the spa.
  • If you have chosen the Mont Blanc Unlimited lift pass you can ski/snowboard in Courmayeur for free – a visit to Pre Saint Didier makes a wonderful end to the day.

Physio Sport Massage

A long hard day on the hill can leave your body in need of some TLC, even more so if you've taken a tumble or have existing aches and pains.

Don't let stiffness or injuries ruin your holiday, make an appointment with a fully qualified physiotherapist to iron out those kinks and get you back on your feet in no time. We can also book you a session with an osteotherapist if that is required.

Practising in the Chamonix valley gives our physios plenty of experience, particularly in knee, back and shoulder problems - there's no injury they haven't seen and no ligament they haven't dealt with! As well as manipulating you back into shape they can also recommend exercises to stretch and strengthen problem areas.

We know that being fit is the best form of injury prevention, which is why we love the fitness classes and training sessions that our partners at La Clinique du Sport offer. From hard workouts to relaxing yoga sessions, you can either book a one-off class or engage the services of a professional personal trainer.

Handy Hints from Mountain Base:
  • Book a mid-week sports massage to loosen up stiff muscles and have you feeling strong and supple for your last few days on the mountain
  • Contact us prior to your stay if you have any ongoing health issues or injuries that you would like treated to ensure that we can book you an appointment with the appropriate specialist
  • Sign up for a ski-specific fitness session, kettle bells, cross-training, yoga or pilates class - you'll use muscles you didn't even know you had!
